About the Author

Clifford M. Scovell

To refine my skill as an author, I've been working with Jessica Maxwell and her Red Moons writer's group. Creating stories is an art, but getting them down on paper is a skill that must be refined. The publication of Prison Earth is my first chance to share an out-of-this-world adventure with a wider audience.

A fifth-generation Oregonian, I have been a farmer, logger, and business owner. I now live in the town of Jefferson, working as a freelance computer support consultant for small businesses up and down Oregon’s beautiful Willamette Valley.

Where did this idea come from?

These books actually started as a short story, but took on a life of its own and has grown into three books, of which Prison Earth - Not Guilty as Charged is the first, and Prison Earth - A Loss of Face is the second. The basic premise of the book goes back a long way, to when I was thirteen, and had a shockingly realistic nightmare about being abducted by aliens. That planted the seed, and explains why the book starts with a dream scene, that isn't a dream.

What kinds of books do you like to read?

My tastes are really eclectic. Here's my most recent list:

The Quiller Memorandum by Adam Hall - Spy thriller
U is for Undertow by Sue Grafton - Murder mystery
The Riddle of St. Leonard's by Candace Robb - Murder in 14th-century England
Murder in the Marais by Cara Black - French private investigator Aimee Leduc.
The Digital Plague by Jeff Somers - Sci-Fi nanobot plague that threatens to destroy humanity.
Follow the River & Lost and Found by Jerry McGee - Historical fiction in Pacific NW.
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho - Historical fiction in the middle east.
Roll Around Heaven by Jessica Maxwell - Fun spiritual adventure.
Kepler’s Witch by James A. Connor - Historical about Johannes Kepler.
Dies the Fire by S. M. Stirling - Sci-Fi based in Willamette Valley, Oregon.
The Reincarnationist by M. J. Rose - Sci-Fi adventure.
The Life of Rome’s First Emperor Augustus by Anthony Everitt - Title says it all.
The Peloponnesian War by Donald Kagan - History of ancient Greece.
Persian Fire by Tom Holland - The rise and fall of the great Persian empire.
