Moving In
Everything you need to know about moving into your new home.
We understand that moving to University can be both exciting and overwhelming. That’s why our goal is to make your transition into your new home as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Our series of welcome booklets, specific to each residence, provide all of the key information you need to help you settle in, so make sure to give yours a read on or before your arrival.
September 2023 arrivals
Moving in day is always an exciting time and in September thousands of new students join us. So that we can safely manage this busy time, we will ask most students to book an arrival slot. This will be a set day and time to arrive at your residence and move all your belongings in. You'll be invited to sign up for an arrival slot via email in August. Please note that slots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, and we can only accommodate a certain number of arrivals during each time period. We will update our website once plans for 2023 have been confirmed.
Arriving during the academic year
If you arrive during the academic year, go to your accommodation reception during business hours to pick up your keys. Opening times, along with address and contact details, can be found within the Location section of each accommodation webpage.
If you arrive outside reception hours, please call our Estates Security Service at +44 (0) 191 208 6817. Security Officers will greet you, provide your key, and request a copy of your Key Collection Pass, which includes information on your room assignment. If you are staying at one of our partner accommodations, you will need to reach out directly to the accommodation.
Your room
Your room will be thoroughly cleaned before you arrive; after arrival you will be responsbible for keeping your room clean. You will get to know the friendly faces of our Residence team as they clean communal areas such as staircases, lifts, and common rooms frequently.
